Unconsciously, Unintentionally, and Unknowingly Demotivating your Employees
Our last article provided useful insight on ways to proactively
improve motivation and morale in the workplace. It is also important
to consider the actions Leaders unconsciously, unintentionally and
unknowingly do to impede employees from attaining a well-established
and positive workplace culture - the type of actions that
result in demotivating our employees.
The effect of demotivation is quite similar to a simple smile in the
sense that it's contagious, leaving organizations vulnerable to these
dangers. Therefore Leaders must become more sensitive in staying
alert to these concerns and learn to tackle it.
What Can Leaders Do?
Motivation plays a major role in productivity, impacting the quality
and pace of work. These factors can be hindered when employees
lack motivation, as you may notice higher absenteeism, turnover of
employees, disorganized work spaces, or even just inattentiveness to
their surroundings. A positive and motivated work environment is
essential to keeping employees enthused.
Our attempt begins with the approach of understanding the
causes leading to employee demotivation. As a leader, you
may force, browbeat or intimidate employees into performance
but will generate even greater concerns as this generates
anger, resentment, and contempt. While these actions are
considerably obvious demotivators to most of us, there are
other ways a Leader can discourage their employees
without knowing it.
Here are some additional demotivators that we unconsciously,
unintentionally or unknowingly do, including a few suggestions
on how to remedy the impact.
